Rowing Picture 11
At the race if you win you have to go to a
platform on the side and there you receive your medal. This here is Pascal and
Jerome they just won the first doubles race in their category.
Rowing Picture 10
This boat is a skiff(single) called jaosee. I
rowed my first couple of times in a skiff in this boat. It is special because
it is wider and because of that harder to fall into the water with.
Rowing Picture 9
At Sihl see the water levels had gone down
because the Zürich lake had priority over being filled up(source: Yasmin). The
dock was under water further away. Because of this it was difficult for me to
row there.
Rowing Picture 8
I prefer not to row during the day because the
sun will be in my eyes and it hurts to look behind or in front of me.
Rowing Picture 7
This is what I see most mornings when I eat
something before leaving for training. The amount of reflection on the water
shows me how clam it is.
Rowing Picture 6
Juri is the boat that I have been racing in for
both my regattas. It is made by a rower part of my club. He won world medals
for Switzerland.
Rowing Picture 5
At my rowing camp in Aegeri it was snowing but
still we went out on the water. it is hard carrying the boat onto land in such
conditions because it is easily to slip on the wooden dock.
Rowing Picture 4
Rowing shows me beautiful sunrises every morning
on the water, I didn’t know Switzerland could look so beautiful in the morning
until I started rowing.
Rowing Picture 3
We will row in all different kind of
temperatures. If there is a meter snow on the ground my coach will simply say,
put on some more layers.
Rowing Picture 2
Smooth water is heaven for rowers, in this type
of water we can row clean and balanced, because of that we can go faster with
less power.
Training Day Report Weekend
Racing Weekend
This weekend was my second regatta ever. It was very exciting for me to see how I could compete in calmer water with someone who I have never rowed with before. During the camp Nikolai only came one day, then we could finally row together twice in a doubles boat. The water in Aegeri was good so I had 2 nice rows. On Saturday we were supposed to go train on the water before our race so we could see how we row together in a cox-less pair (a doubles boat where each rower rows sweep (one oar per person)) this didn’t happen due to the bad weather. We had the first race of the day in the cox-less pair and that went better than expected. The guys I row against have rowed for years and I have only rowed seriously for 4 months. The other boats were much faster than ours but we kept pulling through during the entire race. This exact same thing happened with our doubles race. During both races the weather turned a bit better but overall the entire day it was pouring rain the entire time. We were freezing cold and not in the mood to race. The next day we raced the same races again but we were already done at 11. The most it rained all day was during our second race and this one was the hardest. When you’re in a boat in a race it is difficult if you haven’t done it many times. A 2000m race takes around 8 minutes and these will feel like 30minutes. What you are supposed to do in the boat as well is look at the distance cones in the water that will appear every 100 meter but it seemed like ages for the next cone to come, in the last race especially. We were cold tired and worn out. The last 300 meters we tried giving everything we could. We started getting this feeling in our bodies that we had enough but we kept pushing through with the rain falling on our face and then finally the finish line. We basically just collapsed we were so worn out and tired.
Training Day Report Thursday
Thursday
In the morning I went in a skiff again, this was difficult but rewarding. I felt proud of my balance in the boat. On Friday I would travel to Holland for the weekend and because of that I decided to come again at night. When I arrived I noticed the water was a bit more rough but dave decided it was good enough for rowing. While I was on the water the wind picked up and they waves became huge. Dave came to me in the motor boat and told me to turn around and go back. This was hard and took me in total 25 minutes while usually it would take 7 minutes. Because of the waves I kept losing balance and getting my oar stuck in the water. it was a scary experience for me being in that water in a skiff but I survived. When I finally got out I saw my boat was filled with water and I was completely wet. I put my stuff away and joined the other kids, they were also sent back, with a erg work out lead by a man who has won the welt meistershaft in the 90s. This was a hard work out but I feel like It wasn't a waste of time.
Training Day Report Wednesday
Wednesday
Today there was an event in my rowing club where we were christening a new boat. Because of the event we rowed with other recreational groups. This boat was meant for the recreational rowers but the club bought an exact same one for us racers. The recreational rowers don’t want to row sweep so we had to go in a skulling 8 which is the widest boat we have (worst) the seat in that boat was not good for me because it cut of the arteries to my legs . when we landed on the dock again and got out of the boat there was so little blood in my right leg that I fell because my leg couldn’t be straight. After this we had a brunch and I found out some of the swiss people who race are going to ageri later on the day to row there. I called all the people I row with and asked if one of them wanted to row with me there but none of them could because their exams are sooner than mine. My coach, Dave, suggested I go in one of the wider skiffs. I loved the idea of doing that because that would be the first time I do that. In a skiff there is a big risk of falling in the water because if your oar gets stuck there isn’t someone els holding the balance. Eventually we ended up rowing in sihlsee instead because the water in ageri was bad. I stayed close to shore and I rowed for quite a while but I did not fall into the water and that was a huge achievement for me.
Training Day Report Tuesday
Tuesday
My coach wants to
train the 4 people I row with and I with sweep rowing because of this the
majority of this year we have been rowing and racing sweep boats. Today we were
in a sweep 4 again. We were training to get our oars in the water up straight
while we are still in the last few milliseconds of the recovery. As part of
becoming a better rower I have a big breakfast full of protein and carbohydrates.
I often mix fruits with my yoghurt and cereal, additionally to that I have 1 or
2 eggs, multivitamin or orange juice and a banana.
Research Proposal Paper
The Effect of Phycology on Advertising and Marketing
The research I am
proposing to conduct is going to give Ben’s Big Burgers new insight into the
major role psychology plays in a fast food chains advertising and marketing. Companies’
around the world are competing to find other ways to bring in money, and this requires
more than selling just the standard hamburger. My research will show what your
company could do to increase revenue by appealing to your potential costumers’
emotions.
For a company which
sells products that do not have a direct health benefit it is difficult to maintain
its customers without using techniques in advertising and marketing that many
of us see on television and modern advertising today. In these days, your fast
food chain needs other measures to attract customers to your restaurant, ways that
some people call addictive and manipulative.
There are different
measures used for different age groups that can attract the costumer. For child
consumers, for example, putting a toy in a kid’s meal, and having a fun zone in
the restaurant makes them want to come back, nagging to their parents until they
receive the next happy meal. There is a much better chance of a restaurant
receiving customers this way, as opposed to a restaurant where children are not
happy. In this way parents can eat with a low price then have their kids play
in the fun zone while they enjoy free Wi-Fi and a coffee in the café area. This
will addict the costumer’s emotions to what your company has to offer. Young
adults are interested to go to places that are popular and trendy amounts their
peers. How the public sees your restaurant chain can be changed with
advertisements with celebrities in it, this technique reaches out to the
public’s emotions. Studies have shown that people are more likely to purchase
products they are more familiar with because of repeated advertising.
My research will in
detail show what is needed to market your company in such a way that it becomes
memorable, popular and potentially in the need for expansion. I will dig deep
into the 3 main emotions of advertising (love, fear and rage) and show how to
use this to your best benefit.
Film
Film is more than
people think. My love for film comes from the creative freedom you have with it
and the many possibilities you can do with it. I’m particular in love with
cinematographers that make videos for themselves. Most of the cinematographers
use DSLRS to film which makes it easier for me to replicate this. These
independent cinematographers use creative way to project emotions and scenes in
their film. Often this is made without paid actors or an entire Hollywood
production team. People involved in this project are usually people who started
filming in their teens and have a great passion for it. The editor’s, directors,
camera men and special effects people are usually not professional yet but they
have creative minds and want to use it. There are many kinds of films made by
people like this. Music videos, documentaries, short films, movies. My biggest
inspiration is an old friend of mine, Rickard Bengtsson. He makes creative
videos with his girlfriend where he films directs and edits the video. One
example is a video he made a month ago called “Enchanted Forrest” in this video he captures the beautiful autumn light in a beautiful brown/green
forest for this video he used no camera stabilizers, everything was filmed
handheld. This inspired me to try this out for myself but of Corse I couldn't get the same results as he did. Another example of a great cinematographer is Claudiu voicu is a man who made a short film called “Storm Origins”. This film is about 3 free
runners that are fighting for a job. What I particularly like about this film
is the cinematographer was making this without any safety precautions and the
stable follow shots. I would like to make a video like this if I could. My
dream is ultimately to be making independent films, meaning without a movie
studio. There is always something new you can make with cinematography if you
have the skills for film you can easily get recognized. In this new media era
cinematography is an , as some say “hard” profession since illegal internet
downloading has cut back the revenue of the film industry, because of this in
some years’ time the studios will be going for cheaper directors.
A Midsummers night’s dream/nightmare
The story is called a
midsummer’s night’s dream but in reality it is a nightmare. The lovers (Demetrius, Hermia, Helena &
Lysander) enter the forest with a dream of a happy life filled with love,
Especially Lysander and Hermia have the intentions to go after their dreams of
being together. In the forest everything changes, the dream gets turned into a
nightmare. There is all this hate towards all of the lovers and a dilemma is
created. The lovers are starting to hate each other then love another again,
there is quite a bit of emotional frustration with each of the characters. At
one point the Hermia loves Lysander while he loves Helena while she loves
Demetrius, while at the beginning it was that Hermia loves Lysander but
Lysander & Demetrius love Hermia then Helena loves Demetrius. Nothing went
as planned in the forest. Lysander and Hermia wanted to run away. Eventually
Demetrius and Helena came there to disturb their plan which worked.
The Powwow at the End of the World Analysis
The poem is about Alexi Sherman forgiving the Americans for what they have done towards the Indians.
I am told by many of you that I must forgive and so I shall
after that salmon swims upstream, through the mouth of the Columbia
and then past the flooded cities, broken dams and abandoned reactors of Hanford.
This is a quote from the poem and it shows the idea behind it. He keeps repeating the sentence “I am told by many of you that I must forgive and so I shall” he means that he wants to forgive the Americans. After that sentence he tells us what he wants restored. All the things he wants restored link to each other to get the old Indian culture back. The sentence above is a great example of the figurative language he used. It’s not necessary for the cities to be flooded the Indian culture can be back without it being flooded.
My Iphone
If someone were to look at my music on my iPhone they would be shocked by the different genres I listen to. The genres that I listen to the most are dupstep, hip hop, electro/house and trap. All these genres bring something different to my life. Dubstep has this rough feel to it because of the wobbliness of the bass but it can also be very sensitive with vocal breakdowns. One of my favorite dubstep songs is “Tetris” by Doctor P. Doctor P used the Tetris theme song to create not so much of a remix but a whole new sound. The song itself is a very rough song. Before the drop in the song there is a vocalist screaming f*ck and then it punches into this heavy bass beat. Doctor P is using the bass as a drum and that makes the beat together with a very woody punch. This is not that common in dubstep and is done in such a good way it get my heart pumped up ready to do something hard. This track also sort of wakes me up from this relaxed mood I usually have. “Hall Pass” is a song made by Kydd and Yelawolf. This song is a perfect example of chilled rap. This kind of music is my lounge music. It gets me very relaxed and in a good mood. It’s similar to mac millers older songs and it has this Tyler kind of flavor to it thanks to Yelawolf . The beat is this easy beat with some drums and every 4 turns it has a clingy noise. The song is at this perfect BPM (Beats per Minute) for it, the song is quite fast but still slows me down in some way. I would listen to this when with my friends and I just want some background music or if I’m in the train in a more acoustic mood. There is a fairly new genre called trap. I have recently fallen in love with trap music and I have filed up my iPhone with trap. My 2 favorite artists are Baauer, Flosstradamus and ETC!ETC! These 3 artists make their own sort of sound which is a mixture of dupstep and hip hop beats. “Dum Dum” is a song made by Baauer and this is the first ever trap song I heard. Whenever I listen to this song it makes me just want to stand up and dance anywhere I am. I call it the best of both worlds. It is hip hop mixed with EDM (electronic dance music) therefor this fits with allot of songs together. The build-up of the song is quite intense and because of that when the drop falls all hell breaks loose. The music on my iPhone really is really important to me. it can change my emotions in a split second and everything I do has a soundtrack to it.

Competence
I have been given the task of describing competence in relation to the book Into Thin Air. I believe that the competence of the climber is very important to the outcome of their Mount Everest climb. This counts for other things in life as well those competence maters. The book “Into Thin Air” gives us good examples of how competence matters. One point which you can take from the book is that inexperienced climbers would take with too much equipment or stuff that is unnecessary. For example Sandy Pitman took with satellite phones, computers and other non-climbing items. The people who climbed and were not experienced climbers will hold back the other climbers by lack of technical skills, organizational skills and not having had the practice. In a situation like climbing Mt. Everest the non-experienced climbers could forget items, not know how to climb in different weather conditions and not be willing to go down when sick. An example of that is Scott Fischer when he climbed with stomach pains and eventually died because of mountain sickness. Competence really matters for climbing mountains such as Mt Everest. It can mean life or death. These points are not only valid for climbing but also can be used for any other group and individual work.
A place of significance to me
It was hard for me to decide a place that meant so much to me, so i decided on a city, Istanbul. I went to Istanbul last year for my grade nine CWW trip. This trip was the first time i have ever seen a dolphin and seen water bluer than the sky. My favorite place in Istanbul is the Bosporus straight. We went on a boat trip over the Bosporus straight and it was beautiful, seeing the view from the boat to both sides of Istanbul. I could see the difference between the indian side and the european side of istanbul. Also the mosques looked very big from the boat. we also went up to a museum whose restaurant has the best view of the straight. There we could see all the way into the side of it where it seems like it doesn’t end. I took some pictures from the restaurant where we were sitting and stitched them into a panorama.
